Martyr of Caesarea, in Cappadocia, Asia Minor. He was the reported son of a Scythian officer of the Roman army and became a military hero when barbarians assaulted Rome. When Mercurius refused to take part in sacrifices to the pagan gods during the persecution launched by Emperor Trajanus Decius, he was sent to Caesarea and beheaded. Mercurius was reported to have lent his sword and skills in battles against evil. He supposedly aided St. George and St. Demetrius during the First Crusade and is counted traditionally as a warrior saint.

Very elevating. Never herd of this saint before. But he is mentioned in one of the Tamil poems written in praise of our LADY OF THE SOWS in Tutucormin, Tamilnadu, India. There, the poet starts his poem-pryer with an invocation to Sr, Mercurius. This led me to seach the web and I found your website.It is extremely uselfulr and devotional. Thank you and God bless you. Please continue your good work. Please include some photos of the vaarious churches named after St. Mercurius so that though we may not be able to go their and pray in there we can get the benefits of the prayers as promised to St. Mercuruis.
