Dominican monk at Lima, Peru. He was born in Ribera, Spain, to a noble family and was orphaned at a young age. John went to Peru to work on a cattle ranch before entering the Dominicans at Lima as a lay brother, assigned to serve as a doorkeeper, or porter. He was known for his austerities, miracles, and visions. John cared for all the poor of Lima, dying there on September 16. Pope Paul VI canonized him in 1975 .

A relic of St. Joannis Macias was given to me. I kept it for so long and still never heard of this St. Joannis. Today, after so many years, I tried to make a research.....I found him.
I had been praying for the poor souls in purgatory and now I read his focus was on the poor souls of purgatory too.
Since my husband is very sick, I turned to the souls in purgatory. Now, they have shown me to St. Joannis Macias.
May their souls enjoy our Lord's company soon for being so good to my husband..

Dominicans are not monks - we are friars. Monks is a term that refers to those who live exclusively the monastic life. We, however, are mendicants and it is therefor not proper for us to be given the title of monk.
