St. Ildephonsus
Died: 667
St. Ildephonsus is highly regarded in Spain and closely associated with devotion to the Blessed Virgin which he fostered by his famous work concerning her perpetual virginity. Born around 607, Ildephonsus came from a noble family and was probably a pupil of St. Isidore of Seville. While still quite young, he entered the Benedictine monastery of Agalia near Toledo and went on to become its Abbot. In that capacity he attended the Councils of Toledo in 653 and 655.
In 657 the clergy and people elected this holy man to succeed his uncle, St. Eugenius, as Archbishop of Toledo. He performed his episcopal duties with diligence and sanctity until his death in 667. This saint was a favorite subject for medieval artists, especially in connection with the legend of Our Lady's appearance to present him with a chalice. St. Ildephonsus was a prolific writer, but unfortunately only four of his works have survived. Among these are the one already mentioned and an important document of the history of the Spanish Church during the first two-thirds of the seventh century, entitled Concerning Famous Men.

St. Ildephonsus, please pray for us to lead holy lives, as you did.
I love reading about the saints, and especially seeing the names of all the saints who aren't celebrated regularly. It reminds me of all the nuns and priests from my Catholic School days: Father Eusebius, Father Honorius, Sister Ildephonse, Sister Theophane, Sister Basilia, Sister Petronilla, and all the other wonderful teachers and guides.
Please pray for Jacob that he finds peace and the right path, for his mother that the doctors can slow the progression of her disease and for all cancer patients that we deal with our disease with grace and dignity. Thank you.

Heavenly Mother Mary, in his last hour on the cross thy divine Son committed us to thy motherly care. In the name of Jesus thy child and our saviour, we recommend ourselves to thee with our families and our children all our spiritual and daily needs. We pray to thee let us feel thy might intercession with the lord. Reveal thy holy name in this town of yours..... and especially in this famous cathedral ......which our christian brothers errected and devoted to your honour. Safeguard the treasure of our holy belief , protect our children from the spirtit of evil, and grant that they may grow under thy motherly protection, in honour and virtue and become pious christians, Holy mother of god ,obtain health our sick brothers, comfort for the oppressed , conversion for the sinner, eternal peace and salvation for the dead. Holy Mary let us through thee be united to thy Son, in our life, in our death and in eternal life. Amen (A prayer to our beloved Mother, that I found in a cathedral in Antwerp, Belgium).
St. Ildephonsus, pray for us to have a devotion to Our Lady. Give me the perseverance to pray to her throughout the day, to say the rosary, the Memoraray and the Hail Holy Queen. Give me the grace to move on, not to hold on the negative thoughts or hurts. Help me not regret my faults, but to dwell on God's mercy, compassion and love. Mother Mary grant me the gift of total trust in your Beloved Son, that He'll protect us and provide for us. Amen.
