St. Gobnata, also known as 'Gobnait' (pronounced: GUB-nit) was a bee-keeper as well as a nun. She once saved Ballyvourney from the cattle-raiders who came charging over the glen. Gobnait prayed to God and her bees made a great swarm and drove off the bandits. She is sometimes depicted as a woman with red hair in a plat with a white scarf around her head, and on top of that is a straw hat. She has a blue cloak and a dress with red and white squares.
