St. Aidric
Died: 856
Bishop and court diplomat, raised at Aix-la-Chapelle, Germany, the royal residence of Charlemagne. Aidric, or Aldericus, grew up serving Charlemagne and his son and successor, Louis. At twenty-one, Aidric left the honors of the court to study for the priesthood at Metz, France. After his ordination, he was recalled to the court by Louis. Nine years later he was made the bishop of Le Mans, where he became known for his sanctity and for his efforts on behalf of his people. When Louis died, Aidric supported Charles the Bald, one of Louis' sons fighting for the throne, and for this reason was forced out of Le Mans, only to be reinstalled by Pope Gregory IV. Aidric served as a legate to the court of King Pepin of Aquitaine, France, where he convinced that monarch to restore vast amounts of Church property stolen by the royal family. Aidric also took part in the councils of Paris and Tours. He was paralyzed for the last two years of his life.

I found St. Aidric in early 2007 when I was looking for a name for my coming child. At the time my wife and I didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl and we had already chosen a name for a girl but were having no luck finding a name for a boy. We spent hours online and at the bookstores looking through names and just couldn't find anything that we wanted to name what might be our son. It had to be unique, special, and most importantly, spiritually fitting. One day late in May, 2007, I typed my name into Google, Dominic, and St. Dominic's page came up on the Catholic Online. I went to the page and St. Aidric was listed on St. Dominic's page as being associated with St. Dominic. The name was perfect! And on October 18, 2007, my Aidric was born. Unfortuneatly I never found out why St. Aidric was associated with St. Dominic and the St. Dominic page no longer lists saints associated with St. Dominic. Can anyone please help me find the connection between the two? Thank you.
