Clint Eastwood endorses Mitt Romney in surprise fundraiser visit

'The country needs a boost somewhere,' actor says

A surprise endorsement from Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood - to paraphrase one of his most iconic lines - made Mitt Romney's day. The "Dirty Harry" star appeared at a Romney fundraiser in Idaho's Sun Valley last week. The Academy Award winning actor and director says he endorses Romney because "the country needs a boost somewhere."

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "He just made my day," a beaming Romney declared. Romney aides said the fundraising event collected more than $2 million, a record for all fundraising events ever held in the state of Idaho.

Eastwood was mistakenly aligned with Democratic President Barack Obama when he appeared in an ad by Chrysler, entitled "Halftime in America." Aired during the halftime of the Super Bowl, the clip was narrated by Eastwood and could have been interpreted as an endorsement of Obama.

Eastwood said flatly that he was not endorsing either candidate, telling Fox News Channel he is "certainly not politically affiliated with Mr. Obama.

"It was meant to be a message about just about job growth and the spirit of America," Eastwood said. "I think all politicians will agree with it. I thought the spirit was O.K. I am not supporting any candidate at this time."

Eastwood walked unaccompanied across the bridge to the resort where about 325 people turned out to contribute to Romney's campaign.

Taking the stage after an impromptu introduction from Romney, he told the crowd that he first saw Romney when the candidate was running for governor of Massachusetts while he was directing "Mystic River" in Boston.

"God, this guy, he's too handsome to be governor. But it does look like he could be president," Eastwood remarked.

Tax fairness was the primary reason Eastwood cited in his remarks for endorsing Romney, saying Romney will "restore a decent tax system... so there's fairness and people are not pitted against each other."

When asked why he was endorsing Romney, Eastwood sporting Ray-Ban sunglasses, said plainly "I haven't endorsed the Governor."

As the press stood confused, Eastwood let everyone in on the joke, which he was in fact there to endorse Romney.

Eastwood chortled when asked if this was his second act of "Halftime in America." "That's pretty good," Eastwood said.

What surprises me most, is that more Hollywood superstars who are mega-rich, aren't on the band-wagon for the Mittster.

Judy Clarr. I'am wrong Mitt is his middle name if I had his first and was a professional politician as he's become I would not use it too! .I did hear a rumor maybe you too that he was once the governor of a large eastern state but he never talks about what he did in office so who knows?and I really doubt myself sometimes that a man that plan to run for President most his life would be dumb enough to maintain foreign bank accounts voters wrongly might think he does it to hide form taxes. He does pay some I admit taxes "lots and lots of taxes"he just will not say if he pays a lower or higher percentage in tax then the other 99 %.of Americans.Blessings.

Aww, Clint. While I'm glad you're not pandering to the liberals, as a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans you should recognize that Romney opposes our heritage. As he said of our flag, "That’s not a flag that I recognise or that I would hold up in my room. The people of our country have decided not to fly that flag. I think that’s the right thing. My own view is that this country can go beyond that kind of stuff.”
Ron Paul is the man to support. He valiantly defended our flag, and has not flipped and flopped on critical issues, such as abortion, that Romney has.

Good for Clint Eastwood. He's a former politician himself, a mayor, and he knows this present admin. is destroying this country economically, socially and morally. He's also right about how handsome Romney is. Could of been a movie star himself!
